History of Hotel Pyrénées
Hotel Pyrénées is an emblem of Andorra la Vella, with more than 80 years of history. Founded in 1940 by Pere Calvet Boronat, the hotel has evolved from a small refuge for visitors to the valleys to a place of reference, managed by the same family that saw it born.

Since its opening in 1940, Hotel Pyrénées has witnessed great changes, transformations and memorable moments. With the effort and dedication of the Calvet family, the hotel has grown without losing the charm and friendly service that characterises it. Below is a tour of the most notable milestones in its history.

Pere Calvet Boronat (1920-1984) from Casa Flora, in Andorra la Vella, was a farmer, like his father and many of the inhabitants of Andorra. But he thought that a hotel was needed to accommodate the increasing number of visitors to the valleys, and so he began construction of the building, in some of the family's orchards, at the end of the 1930s. The hotel was completed in 1940.

Initially, the hotel had 36 rooms spread over 3 floors. Each room had a washbasin and a bidet, and each floor had a bathroom. Today, after various renovations, the hotel has 70 rooms with full bathrooms. A curious element of its construction is the wooden beams with which the oldest part of the building was made, which are preserved as they were on the first day. In those times, wood was carved according to the moon and this selection explains its good condition. On the façade you can read the original name of the hotel in Catalan "Pirinenc" and the initials of its founder PC.

After the construction was finished, Pere Calvet Boronat's father wanted his son to continue in the farming business and the hotel was rented out from 1940 to 1954. The hotel was then renamed "Pirinenc" and translated into French as "Pyrénées" due to the large number of French guests. In 1954, Pere Calvet Boronat and his wife, Rosa Dolsa Cuberes, from Casa Pa i Aigua, took over the reins of the business, leaving farming aside. Don Pere Calvet Boronat died in 1984. He was an elegant man, very hard-working, and above all a great person. He was in charge of the business until the very last day. Today, his descendants run the hotel. It has been the Calvet family that has made it possible, over the years, to provide a personal and familiar treatment to the large number of guests from all countries who have stayed at their house time and again.
